International Cultural and Technology Exchange (ICTE) is an educational program by Gotravindo held on September 28 – October 5, 2018 in Tokyo, Japan. Cooperation with global institution, the program issues double international certificates that will be able to support student educational plan in the future.

Indonesia and Japan are two countries with typical both traditions and culture. Both countries also have historical background connection that is worth to learn. Japan becomes one of the destination country that Gotravindo offers to explore, since its culture is not only worth to learn, but also worth to compare. Being one of the most advanced nation existing in this current era, Japan has never neglected its tradition and culture. Instead, Japanese hold their tradition and culture as the priority in their daily lives and as an ideology in their decision-making process. For example, Japanese still consider chanoyu (茶の湯), or tea ceremony as sacred tradition. chanoyu (茶の湯) is a ceremony to purify one’s body and soul. This is why this sacred tea ceremony originality is still being kept and practiced.

BENEFIT

INTERNATIONALLY CERTIFIED LANGUAGE LECTURE

The participants will be given courses about Japanese language and its history also art to achieve the international certificate as a form of appreciation for completing the language lecture and cultural workshop in Intercultural Institute of Japan.

CULTURAL ANALYSIS AND COMPARATION

The Participants will learn how the Japanese hold their tradition and culture to every aspect of their lives by experiencing, comparing and analyzing the differences in respect of culture between two countries and understand the typical culture of Japan.

INTERNATIONAL WORLD HERITAGE DISCOVERY

The historical background of the religious buildings is also offered to be learned on this journey. This way, learning about the history of the country will be a piece of cake for the participants.

SOCIAL IMMERSION AND CULTURAL EXCHANGE

The constant interaction with the locals can also be used to immerse and widen Japanese people’s vision and perception about the culture of our country. It will cut both ways after-all.

Departure

An exchange is not merely in academic matter, but also in other thing that adjusts participants’ journey. And this is it, the journey begins right when the participants hop up to their planes and fly their way to Japan. The day will be spent on the sky.

Arrival – Akihabara

Arriving at Narita International Airport, the participants will be greeted by friendly and hospitable atmosphere of Japan. There will be meet and greet and airport assistance provided by the committees before continuing the exploration of Japan. Then the participants will be guided to a place where they can apply what they have learned. The participants will visit Akihabara. Akihabara, or also known as the land of nerds or the geek central, is a place where technology meets culture. In this place, the participants will be encouraged to learn about the famous culture of otaku and also the cultural trademark of Japan, anime and manga.

Panasonic Center – Toyota Mega Web – Odaiba

The real adventure will be started on the third day when participants will be invited to expose environmental friendly but high technology product by Panasonic brand in Panasonic Center. After that they will see and experience by riding motor vehicles in Toyota Mega Web. Before going back to the hotel, the participants will be brought to Odaiba. Odaiba is an artificial island that is connected to central Tokyo by a bridge called Rainbow Bridge. Rainbow Bridge is one of the most famous landmarks all across Japan. Beside visiting the craft shops, the participants can also see a miniature of Liberty Statue in Odaiba. Even though it is not exactly the same size, the Liberty Statue replica in Odaiba is very close to the original with the Rainbow Bridge from the background.

Intercultural Institute of Japan – Tokyo Stock Exchange – Shibuya – Harajuku

On the fourth day, the participants will be brought to Intercultural Institute of Japan (INCUL). Japanese is one of the most difficult languages to study in the world. Studying culture will not be complete, if the learners do not desire diving into the core of the culture itself, which is the language. After learning Japanese at Intercultural Institute of Japan, they will visit Tokyo Stock Exchange to learn about market and stock as well as experiencing trading simulation. Afterwards, they will be lead to Shibuya prefecture, the busiest neighborhood of Japan. On the busy crossroad of Shibuya, hundreds of people walk across the street with an excellent orderly manner, a culture that can be an example for them of how important the law and orders are. Taken to Harajuku, a world-wide popular trend where they can absorb knowledge as many as possible about the culture, the history and the current trend of Harajuku, will be the last thing to end the incredible day.

Tea Ceremony – Asakusa Temple – Tokyo Skytree

After understanding Japanese culture by learning the language, the participants will join Japanese Tea Ceremony or chanoyu (茶の湯). Tea Ceremony is considered as a sacred tradition, and complicated procedure of the ceremony will be very interesting to be witnessed. After that, the participants will be taken to learn more about the religion in Japan. Asakusa Temple is one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Japan. In Asakusa Temple, they are encouraged to learn more about the religious side of Japan, along with the history, the stories, the myths behind the temple. A conversation with people around the temple is also encouraged to maximize the knowledge achieved. Then, they will move on from the most traditional structure in Japan to the most modern and tallest building across the nation, Tokyo Skytree to discover the beauty of Japan from the highest building before moving on to the next site.

Tokyo Institute of technology – Bank of Japan – Shimokitazawa

In another opportunity, the participants will be invited to Tokyo Institute of Technology to attend workshop in technology and have campus tour with student buddies. It will be a great experience for the participants since they will interact with international students from best university. After university workshop, they will take museum tour in Bank of Japan for seeing monetary exhibition. Furthermore, they will pass by in Shimokitazawa – a commercial and entertainment district for the youth.

The University of Tokyo – Ueno Park – Narita International Airport

The final journey will be closed by having campus tour in The University of Tokyo and stroll around in Ueno Park. The Park becomes famous mainly because it is full of various museums and temples. In Autumn, Ueno Park is a perfect location to admire koyo – an autumn colored foliage. After visiting Ueno Park, the participants along with the committees will go to the airport to fly back to Indonesia and end the journey.

Home Arrival

The participants will arrive in Indonesia with new knowledge about Japanese culture in their hearts and minds that they will treasure for the rest of their lives.

The participants will arrive in Indonesia with new knowledge about Japanese culture in their hearts and minds that they will treasure for the rest of their lives.

The academic content of the program is formulated by Gotravindo in collaboration with the Intercultural Institute of Japan, University of Tokyo, and Tokyo Institute of Technology.

The Industrial visit content of the program is formulated by Gotravindo in collaboration with Panasonic Center, Tokyo Stock Exchange, Bank of Japan.

Every participant will receive double an International Certification issued by Intercultural Institute of Japan and Gotravindo.

All selected delegates will be active in social project as a voluntary program of Gotravindo to support the Indonesian future development. Please be informed the social project name is SEMANGAT MEMBANGUN NEGERI.
